This is where life gets a little weird. The HOMMAN'S were once HOWMAN's. This is the nice little research twist that I came across. Vickie and I are 6th cousins (and spouses!). My forefather, Andrew HOMMAN was really a HOWMAN. You can see the descendants tab to see where we link. Much thanks to Ann Marr who's research helped me move the Howman link together. Information from Ms. Ann Marr (marr794@aol.com) defining her research into the Howman's can be seen at this link here Excepts from the link shown above: "Many of the Howman neighbors in Wayne County Ohio were from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. This family's ancestry is still a mystery, but two Howman brothers in Wayne County, Ohio were born in that state. Someday, someone will undoubtedly find the clue that leads to their father's name. The first brother, Frederick Howman, was born 1788 in Pennsylvania and died September 20, 1837 in Wayne Co, Ohio. He was 49 years old when he died and burial was in the Dutch Reformed Cemetery in Congress Twp, Wayne County, Ohio. Frederick married Elizabeth Rishel about 1812 in Pennsylvania; born May 19, 1796 in Pennsylvania; died July 6, 1852 in Wayne County, Ohio. Frederick Howman obtained two U.S. Patent Grants of Wayne County Lands: May 1, 1815 Hamman, Fred SW Sec 33 160 Acres March 8, 1819 Hamman, Fred Twp Congress T-R 21-14 Sec 33 SW 160 Acres Recorded 36 231-30 The other brother, Jacob Howman was born April 24, 1786 in Pennsylvania, and died December 11, 1861 in Chester Twp, Wayne County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth before 1821. She was born October 3, 1788 in Pennsylvania, and died July 30, 1850 in Congress Twp. Their remains lie in the Dutch Reformed Cemetery. Frederick and Jacob owned property on the same road in Congress Twp. The Dutch Reformed Cemetery, where many of the family are buried, is within a mile of the home properties. Both Jacob & Frederick purchased land in 1819. They might have been in Stark County prior to that as the 1820 census shows a Jacob & Frederick Hommon in either Paris or Perry Twp. (John's Note: Fredrick is Vickie's forefather, Jacob is mine) |
