The Butcher family has a long and detailed history.  There are many family stories shared amongst family members that have been handed down from year to year.

The name Butcher originated in England and was given as a result of the person's occupation. Therefore, the Butcher name came about because the original Butcher was indeed a Butcher.  As far back as I have been able to trace, the Butcher's were Butcher's!

The first researcher for the Butcher's was Uncle Claude Butcher, my Grandmother Veva's Brother). He spent many years researching long before there was ever an "internet". I have many letters from him back and forth to various research places, libraries, etc. He was very much into History and often played in re-enactments of civil war battles. As a famous Architect from Portland, one of Claude's projects was a monument in Portland to A.J. Fugatt (Picture is available on the "Fugatt Pictures" page in this web). Of the Emanuel Butcher descendants, the children did quite well for themselves. Many graduated cum laude from High school and college. Of the children, the following titles were accomplished: An Architect, a Veterinarian, a very successful salesman and pneumatics collector, and a gun collector who also performed with a famous wild west show.

Please feel free to visit the "BUTCHER PICTURES", "BUTCHER DOCUMENTS", or "BUTCHER HEADSTONES" pages on this web.  There are many great pictures and people.
